The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society

The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society by Mary Ann Shaffer and Annie Barrows

As the only part of the British Isles to be occupied by enemy forces in World War II I might have expected to know more about Guernsey than I did. Not particularly about the process of occupation and liberation, but about how the British people coped with the situation. Mary Ann Shaffer, and her co-author Annie Barrows, have opened up my eyes. And by telling the story through the words and deeds of believable characters have shown that even in the face of real hardship there is always a way to survive.
